Spring Sports have Sprung from the Nest

Yup ! High School Baseball, Softball, Boys Tennis, Boys Golf, Swimming/Diving, and Track & Field all take flight with games that count starting this week.

The Tennis, Baseball, and Softball squads for both schools all had scrimmages on Saturday, but they were all out of town and spread from Paso to Pueblos - Dos that is.

The regular season for most outfits lasts 11 weeks with an additional 3 weeks of playoffs for the 'Guud - uns'. Hopefully, some of the locals qualify.

The first piece of news from the various camps is not good. Alex Jensen (pictured above), LHS tennis ace, has been consigned to limited duty with the doubles units after having serious back surgery recently. Hope you heal fast, Alex.

The locals play this week, but still don't appear too much in front of the home folks. In any event, here's the schedule for week #1 (starting with the usual Lompoc Golf match) and also please note the Cabrillo baseball Alumni game and the Cabrillo Varsity Softball Tournament - both on Saturday:

Congratulations
Are in order for two teams from the area - both Arroyo Grande & Dos Pueblos won CIF Championships in their respective divisions. The AG Eagles topped Rio Mesa (9-7) in Div IV & the Chargers out-lasted the #1 ranked Corona Del Mar Sea Queens 3-2 for the Div I title. It was the second straight title for both teams.
Oh, and the St. Joseph Knights girls basketball team steamrolled into the CIF V-AA finals behind 14 points from Ane' McPike. They avanced to their 1st final since 1991 by thumping Valley Christian 39-19. Their opponent will be Junipero Serra HS, 73-55 winners over St. Bonaventure.
