Why There Are Two Leagues

The pool deck at a swim meet is always a chaotic whirl - this one is the COLAC during Atascadero @ Lompoc.
Meet Details Soon.

If anyone has been wondering why there are two leagues on the Central Coast, or why the local schools are in the lower level one, pre-season competition across the league boundaries is a great reminder. In the first two days of the spring season there have match-ups in boys golf, tennis, & volleyball, and in coed track/field & swimming. Anybody care to guess how events have gone ?

The Known Results -

Boys Golf
On Monday, Lompoc and Santa Ynez (both LPL) traveled to Nipomo (PAC-7). Result : Nipomo 414, SY 428, Lompoc 515.

Tuesday, SY hosted PAC-7 also-ran Paso Robles and pulled out a win 423-454. Meanwhile, Templeton (LPL) and Atascadero (PAC-7) had their match called due to darkness/impending rain/etc. . Only the first foursome had completed play, and the two best scores (76 & 78) both belonged to Atascadero. NOTE: The result of the Cabrillo / Mission Prep inter-sectional match were not known at the time of publication.

Boys Golf: Pac-7 - 2.5, LPL - 1

Boys Tennis

LPL powerhouse and presumptive league favorite, (they're the Champ until somebody knocks 'em off), Santa Ynez dropped a 10-8 decision to Arroyo Grande on Tuesday as the Eagles #1 singles player, Sam Rogers, swept (6-0, 6-3, 6-0). Fellow LPL member Morro Bay fell 12-6 to Paso Robles despite Mike Ion's sweep (6-3,6-0,6-3) in singles, and Cabrillo traveled to San Luis Obispo to take an 18-0 thumping from the Tigers.

Boys Tennis: Pac-7 - 3, LPL - 0

Boys Volleyball
{Neither Cabrillo nor Lompoc have teams}
Nipomo cruised past Morro Bay 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-17).

Boys Volleyball: Pac-7 - 1, LPL - 0

Coed Swimming

The Righetti boys took 1st place in every single race en route to a 115-67 dismantling of Santa Ynez, while against Atascadero the Lompoc boys won a race (Carl Thacker - 100 Freestyle) but the girls did not. Finals (all Lompoc losses): Boys Varsity 119-52, Girls Varsity 111-58, Boys JV 74-32, Girls JV 120-40.

Swimming: Pac-7 - 3, LPL - 0

Track & Field

The Track & Field season started in the Santa Maria valley with a three-way meet between Righetti, Pioneer Valley, and Santa Maria. (Orcutt Academy also participated in the JV girls events). So how did the Saints fare versus the Warriors & Titans ? Not so well. Boys: Rig. - 61, PV - 59.5, SM- 41 ; Girls: Rig.-65, PV-39, SM -30

Track/Field: Pac-7 - 4, LPL - 0

TOTAL: Pac-7 - 13.5 , LPL - 1

It is, of course, early in the season, and baseball & softball are still to be heard from, but the initial numbers sure look lop-sided to me. --- el stato
