Call 'em the 'Lumberjacks' ?

Girls Softball
{It was a good day for the LPL vs the PAC-7}

Lompoc

Maybe we should start calling them Ledgerwood's Lumberjacks. The Lompoc girls softball varsity certainly used the lumber on Friday - jacking 3 shots out of the park, and pounding out 14 hits, en route to a 15-0 win over the SLO Tigers.

The Braves Jeana Carrillo had one of the homers and also started a new shutout streak, pitching five masterful innings. Last year she was really good about not giving up walks, but didn't have a lot of strike-outs. On Friday, she did - no walks and 7 strike-outs. The 'other' two blasts over the new left field fence were by Hilary Davis. The team home run leader last year was Courtney Dosa with four (4). STORY

Next: Saturday @ the Simi Valley Tournament

The JV:
After posting an impressive 27 runs in two scrimmages, about the only thing the girls hit Friday - was a dry spell at the plate. Unfortunately, they had some fielding problems too. Together it equaled a 5-2 loss to the Tigers.

The limited hitting was done by Sierra Lujano (2/3), Dominique Oatis (2/4), and sub April Tuomi (2/2).

Cera Mitchell started in the circle and gave up four runs, but only one was earned. She surrenderred 3 walks to go with 4 strike-outs in her three innings, before handing the ball to #1 pitcher Jasmine Taylor. Taylor went four innings, struck out four, allowed one unearned run and a double, and walked nobody. The girls leave in the morning for a tournament in Nipomo.

Cabrillo

The Conquistadors start their season by hosting an eight team tournament on Saturday, March 7th. The morning session (9 am) games are Cabrillo / Bishop Diego and Santa Maria / Santa Barbara with the winners and losers facing each other at 11 am. Nipomo / Carpenteria and Hueneme / Santa Ynez play at 1pm, followed by the second round at 3pm. The final rounds of the tourney will be played on the 14th of March.

NOTE: The baseball team will also be hosting the Patrick Ostini Memorial Alumni Game (noon) next to the tournament venue.

SWIM/DIVE
Cabrillo hosted Righetti at the CHS pool on Friday. The Conqs deep and experienced girls squad won both the varsity (120-66) and JV (110-55) competitions, while the inexperienced boys varsity struggled (67-111). Superior numbers helped the boys JV to a win (61-35).
